Food Friday- Christmas Plans

(my parent's dog loves our fireplace)

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, but my parents have been visiting for Christmas.  They're actually going to Ohio for the holidays, so it's just me and the husband on Christmas Day.  Right now I'm stuffed with ham, cornbread casserole, green beans, and lots of wine.  It's a wonder I'm still awake!  I still haven't tackled the pumpkin pie yet!
I've been enjoying reading all of your Christmas traditions.  One tradition that I know my husband and I will be starting this year is to have a traditional Japanese Christmas Eve dinner.  Sounds fancy right?  Well...go and Google that to see what pops up.  Yep, it's KFC.  Since only about 1% of the Japanese population is actually Christian and don't actually celebrate Christmas, the holiday has become more of a couples holiday.  And since a lot of Japanese people don't have ovens, getting a meal from KFC is about as close to a traditional turkey dinner as it gets.  They make a special Christmas sponge cake with strawberries to go with it.  I shouldn't be looking forward to getting a bucket of fried chicken so much, but I'm pretty excited about it.  I plan on decorating my Christmas cake, drinking large amounts of eggnog, and watching Die Hard (yes...it totally counts as a Christmas movie) on Christmas Eve.
Since it's just Todd and I on Christmas Day I'm planning on grilling some steaks and roasting some winter vegetables.  I may make a nice little breakfast too.  Nothing too fancy though.  I'm sure we'll follow it up with a trip to the movies (Les Miserables?).  I'm kind of looking forward to a quiet holiday.
Also, this weekend I'm working out at my old job in Tuscaloosa at their ice skating rink!  I'm glad I'm going to be inside selling tickets and not outside in the cold.  I know they'll have all kinds of Christmas activities to get me in the spirit.  I hope you all have a safe and lovely weekend and be careful if you have to go shopping (seriously, it's crazy out there!).

  1. Sounds sweet! I also like to just hang around on christmas and not make too much of a fuzz. That spoils the fun of just being together! What do you do at the ice skating rink? I actually got a small part in Disney on Ice (as one of the swedish voices, not skating).

Hope you have a great holiday!

  2. I love that KFC idea! I haven't had a KFC in about a year so the thought of that is making me drool. Goddammit, I'm spaghetti tonight and yet suddenly fried chicken sounds the best. lol.

Also your fireplace looks like something out of a Christmas card. Looks beautifully cosy. Hope you have a great Christmas!

I never have KFC but I can see how it would be fun once a year!

    Merry Christmas!

  6. It's nice to have a quiet Christmas. It's just Cody and I. I feel like we made the best of it. Lots of coffee and cookies. Plus it snowed so it was beautiful!
