I know that I'm a little late hopping on the perler bead train. However, the prospect of creating 8-bit works of art was too alluring. So I bought myself a big tub of 20,000 something beads and have been having so much fun with them. The first thing I made was a star to top our Christmas tree.
Health potion? Yes, I'm a dork.
I sorted out some of my beads on my Lady Lovely Locks tv tray while watching Daria. It was like being stuck in some crazy time vortex. I appreciate Daria's cynicism so much more as an adult.
My husband was thrilled about the little Link I made him. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be making every Final Fantasy and Zelda character in perler beads.
I was hoping to make some jewelry (necklaces, brooches, and earrings) from perler beads, but I'm afraid the designs will be too big. I'll have to do some more experimenting. Have you all worked with perler beads? If so, do you have any advice?
I love pearler beads, they are so fun and relaxing!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any advice on perler beads cause I haven't gotten around to buying my own supplies yet. We talked about making our own designs with them last year... BUT if you think you're designs are too big, you can always make them into big fridge magnets. We have a bunch we bought and love them. I guess you could also glue them on some canvas, so people could hang them up?
ReplyDeleteThe star idea on your tree.... too awesome. If I had the supplies Id make one for my tree too.
also, the fact that you're watching daria, one of my favourite shows ever makes you super duper cool!
Yeah, I think our fridge will probably be covered in these!
Deletewow, i have never seen this before and i must say it looks interesting! <3

I love these! SO GOOD. Where did you get your giant tub of unsorted beads? Because sorting 20,000 beads seems so much fun!
ReplyDeleteAlso, can you let me know when you have a moogle down pat?! I'm obsessed with moogles.
I got the beads on Amazon because they were super cheap. I've only sorted through about 1/4 of the container and I'm DONE for now!
DeleteI haven't seen those beads since I was a wee little girl. What a flash from the past. Your Link is amazing. I also love the Mario star. So great.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember doing these at all as a kid. I must have totally missed out! =)
DeleteOMG I miss those!!!! I have a ton of ornaments I made for my parents tree when I was a kid. This is awesome. Daria!! You're a dork ;)
ReplyDeleteI am such a dork. =P
DeleteHaha, I used to play with these things all the time when I was a wee sprat. I'd get super excited handing them over to my Mum to iron them so they stayed fixed. The magical iron which I couldn't use because I was too small. It seemed magical when I was 5, anyway!
ReplyDeleteAlso DARIA. La la la la la, la la la la la!

ReplyDeleteI am obsessed with these too! Haha you can make ornaments, rearview mirror car accessories, magnets, jewelry, etc! Love the tree topper, what a cute idea!!
