This week's Thrifty Thursday is a little different. I didn't actually thrift any of these items, but rather obtained them from my husband's grandmother's house. She passed away about 2 years ago and they are trying to sell the house. It's a long story, but we were entitled to receive some of the items from the house. Of course, she had some pretty awesome stuff. What I've shown isn't even the half of it. She had all kinds of antique furniture, scraps of vintage fabric, dishes, books, record players, ect... Needless to say I was more than willing to help them clean out the house. We've made two trips up there and we still need to make another! Unfortunately we've had about 4 estates to go through in the last 2 years, which means we are beginning to look like hoarders (ok, it's mostly my fault!), but I'm not passing up anything vintage! Especially when it belonged to either of our families. I'll have to show you the rest of the items I get when we make our next trip!
Number 6 is so perfect, that is such an accurate representation of me! Great finds.

Oh my! I recently went through my great grandma Lu's costume jewelry and once I got it home and cleaned it up I realized that the giant rings with the giant rhinestones are actually real gold with real gems! That lady had some wicked style! If only she had lived longer for me to appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI would be the exact same way! The measuring cups and sewing machine are perfect!! Oh my goodness.
ReplyDeleteI love that little guy, "Tomorrow I've got to get organized". LOL That's the story of my life.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, I have nominated you for a liebster award in this post: http://enidtwiglet.blogspot.com.au/2013/01/the-lovely-octavia-from-octavia-and.html
ReplyDeleteIt's sad to have had to get it this way, but so nice that her beloved stuff is going to a family member who will treasure them :) those curtains are AMAZING!!!
ReplyDeleteI feel the same way about vintage and especially family heirlooms. It must have been so fun to go through her things and envision her adoring them, wearing them, creating them, ect. - that's the part I love about thrifting. These items are amazing, she seems like she was a very neat person :] I lovvvve the bird measuring cups!
ReplyDeleteThese are really fun! I love the bird measuring cups, too cute :)
