Time For Action!!!

There's something very important going on in the Supreme Court that isn't getting a lot of attention.  Do you re-sell items on eBay, Amazon, or Etsy?  Have you ever bought a used video game, movie, book, or cd?  Have you ever checked out a book at a library?  Have you ever bought something at a thrift store?  Have you ever bought a used car?  Well if you have, and any of the parts of the items were made outside of the US, your days of doing that may be numbered.  The Supreme Court is hearing a case this week that would make it illegal to re-sell items that were not made in the US or parts of it were not made in the US.  That means no more thrift stores.  No more selling a used vehicle (unless 100% of the components were made in the US, and good luck finding a car like that).  No more of my husband and I's dream of opening up a re-sale shop.
The website You've Been Owned is holding a day of action today.  I encourage you to fill out the form to Congress and make others aware of this potentially life-changing case.  Here's another article that explains the case a little more. I also took it a step further and wrote an e-mail to my Congressman.  You can find out who that is in your area here and easily write them a personal e-mail on this situation.  I know most of us are thrifters, and I can't imagine not being able to buy vintage or even antiques because they were not originally made in the US.  And it would effect so much more than this.  Even libraries would be illegal.  It seems that the Supreme Court would have the common sense to reject this ruling, but it's already made it through 2 courts.  So please do your part and make your voice heard!

  10. What on earth would be the reason for them doing this? It's so stupid. I guess it would be to bring more factory jobs to america? But at the same time make a ton of others lose their jobs.

    1. It just makes no sense at all. It's just a few companies that want to make an extra dollar. Hope it doesn't pass.

  11. Wow,....I didn't know about this. I could say so much right now, but it would be getting way to into politics. This is AWFUL. Talk about taking away our rights. I am all about being green and buying second hand is one of the top things you can do!!!!! (Keep stuff out of the landfills and use what we already have!) Anyways,...I will check out that link. Thanks for sharing Karen.

    1. That was a point that I had not thought about. It would be absolutely ridiculous to say that everything we buy has to be new (unless it was made in the US.) How wasteful would that be? It seem like such a stupid case that it could never pass, and I do hope that's the case.
